General Information

Welcome to Johns Hopkins Hospital School of Cardiac Sonography, Echocardiography Program. The program is a 14-month full-time accredited program beginning July of the enrollment year and running continuously through August of the following year.

This program is designed to provide clinical training, including hands-on practice, for echocardiographic sonography and an academic curriculum in echocardiographic principles, technology, physics and instrumentation.  We are dedicated to training sonographers who exemplify this standard and degree of excellence.  Upon completion of the program, graduates will be eligible to sit for the ARDMS Registry Exams.

Hours

The hours will be eight hours per day and five days per week.

Class size

The student to faculty ratio for didactic training is 3:1 and for all clinical training is 1:1.

Facilities

This program takes advantage of the wide range of imaging resources available at Johns Hopkins Hospital.  Johns Hopkins Hospital is consistently recognized as one of the premier health care organizations in the United States and the world. 

Tuition

Tuition for the 2007-2008 class is $9,000.

JHH Cardiac Sonography program reserves the right to make such changes without previous announcement.

Accreditation

The Sonography Program is accredited by the Joint Review Committee on Education in Diagnostic Medical Sonography (JRCDMS) and the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP).

* We are awaiting approval from the Maryland Higher Education Commission application.

Applications and Admissions

For consideration to the School of Cardiac Sonography, the application and other required documents must be submitted by the deadline of February 15 of the matriculation year.  Applications received after that date will be considered on a space available basis. 

Complete applications include: 

  • A non-refundable application fee of $25
  • A completed application form
  • A letter of intent
  • Two letters of reference
  • Transcripts documenting all post-high school education

Foreign transcripts must be evaluated by one of the agencies in the United States that performs academic credential evaluations.  Applicants with academic degrees from international institutions are required to take both the TOEFL and TSE examinations within twelve (12) months of the application deadline.

Admission Requirements

Individuals must present a strong academic background, especially in the supporting sciences. They need to demonstrate responsibility, a character of high moral integrity, good interpersonal skills and compassion. 

Applicants must have a minimum of a two year associate degree with a minimum GPA of 2.5 or be a graduate of a two year clinically related accredited school in Allied Health (RN, RT, RDMS, Respiratory Therapy, etc.) with appropriate certification in that clinical specialty.

  • Introduction to Microcomputer Applications

The prerequisite courses are required for all applicants and must be completed with a grade of C or better.
